Truth keeps one safe from the deceptions of this end time. It helps one to live godly among the simple. But what is truth? In the Scripture, we often heard Jesus say, ‘verily, verily……’What did He mean? In John 14:6, He said to Nicodemus,
“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. “
In John 14:19-21, He also said:
“A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. On that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me, loved My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself in him.”
Over here, truth is a person – the Spirit of God. In Him, there is no shadow of turning deception. Buy this truth and sell it not – He will change your life and give you a glorious destiny.
And when Simon saw that through the laying of the apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, saying, ‘Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit.’ But Peter said to him, ‘Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! Acts 8:18-21
Simon tried to buy the Spirit with money but did not succeed. This means that the Spirit is not bought with money. So how can one buy the truth? You buy it when you decide to give your life to Christ and lay your sins at the feet of His cross. At that point the Spirit of truth comes to live in you, protect you, teach you, open you up to the things of God and provides for you. Hence the admonishment, ‘buy the truth and sell it not’.
Just as Esau sold out his birthright cheaply, if you are not careful or watchful enough, you will sell off the truth in you for little things. Many Christians bought the truth, but due to the pleasures and the necessities of life, they have sold Him out cheaply. Be vigilant, least you will lose this precious gift from the Father and you will have to pay dearly to have Him back sometime later.
With Truth, you have everything that pertains to life and godliness. But if you do not take care, the pleasures of life – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life will make you sell Him out easily.
